Lead
the day.
Campus operations, student concerns, staff decisions, and events all meet in the same school day. I keep the work moving with clarity and care.
I’m William Smith Jr., Vice Principal at Saint Paul American Scholars Dongtan. My work spans the full rhythm of an elementary campus: supporting instruction, leading people, partnering with families, and making the decisions that keep a school moving.
Campus operations, student concerns, staff decisions, and events all meet in the same school day. I keep the work moving with clarity and care.
Professional development, planning conversations, and evidence of learning help teachers turn shared priorities into stronger instruction.
Parent workshops, conferences, student support, and school events create the relationships that make a campus feel connected.
My title is Vice Principal. At the Dongtan campus, I lead its day to day operation, making decisions across academics, student life, staff support, events, and family communication.
With more than 15 years in education, I believe leadership is visible in the ordinary moments as much as the major ones: a thoughtful response to a student concern, a useful conversation with a teacher, a well-run parent workshop, or a school event that brings everyone together.
Coordinate daily operations, respond to emerging needs, and keep school routines clear and consistent for students, families, and staff.
Review planning, support teachers, lead professional development, and use evidence of learning to guide improvement.
Address discipline with care, support student well-being, and create events and family conversations that strengthen trust.
Select a role to see the work behind it.
Vice Principal with broad responsibility for the daily leadership of the elementary campus.
Campus operations, academic coordination, staff support, student conduct, school events, and family engagement. I work across these areas to keep the school responsive and aligned.
Support teachers with lesson and unit planning, coaching, and professional learning. I lead PD sessions, help implement standards-based grading, and translate school priorities into classroom practice.
Handle discipline and student concerns while maintaining a safe, respectful environment. I make space for student voice and help build a positive school culture.
Host parent conferences and workshops, communicate with families, and lead campus events that connect learning with the wider school community.
Facilitating conferences and workshops gives families a direct connection to the school’s academic and student support work. These conversations help turn concerns and goals into shared next steps.
I design and lead professional development, meet with teachers about planning and instruction, and support a culture in which adults continue to learn alongside students.
Alongside school improvement and accreditation support, I lead assemblies, community activities, and student leadership opportunities that make school values tangible beyond the classroom.
Academic Director overseeing program operations, faculty support, and family engagement.
Directed the day to day educational program, monitored implementation, and improved processes to support consistent, student-centered learning.
Worked with educators on instructional strategies, reviewed lessons and communication, supported onboarding, and helped staff identify areas for improvement.
Analyzed classroom and student trends, rebalanced resources, and supported the use of technology and updated materials in the curriculum.
Partnered with families and represented the program in school meetings, events, and outreach. I also contributed to initiatives that strengthened enrollment and community relationships.
I attended the Maple Bear Asia Conference to learn with educators across the network and bring new ideas back to my school community.
I hosted a Maple Bear storytelling contest, helping create a welcoming stage for students to share their voices and celebrate language learning.
Through parent relationships, school communication, and promotional outreach, I helped families understand the program and stay connected to their children’s learning.
Strong schools are built through empathy, a clear vision, and relationships that make people feel seen. I try to bring those principles into decisions with teachers, students, and families every day. Every learner brings distinct strengths, challenges, and experiences; our work is to understand them and create room to grow.
Understand the people and context before choosing a response.
Use classroom evidence and conversation to guide next steps.
Turn shared goals into consistent actions and routines.
Before campus leadership, I taught and led teams in language education and higher education. That range still shapes the way I work with educators and students.
